Are you just starting your yoga practice? Child’s pose is a great pose you can perfect.
The benefit of this pose is that it’s very calming. No matter how stressed you feel in your daily life, this short sequence will give you instant stress relief:
* Tadasana (mountain pose)
* Child’s post
* Sitting pose
Stand in mountain pose for several breaths, ensuring that your weight is evenly balanced, on the balls of your feet, as well as on your heels. Stretch out your toes.
Then get onto your hands and knees, and sit back on your heels.
Move forward into child’s pose, and rest in the pose for a minute or two.
When you come out of the pose, sit in sitting pose, and feel the difference in your body, and in your mood.

Looking for something new from your yoga sessions? Aerial yoga may become a hot new trend. The big benefit is that it allows you to take the pressure off your joints and move more freely.
Aerial yoga students explore new heights | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press reports:
“The four-week Saturday sessions allow metro Detroiters to do exercises and poses with the help of fabrics that are hung from the ceiling and can hold more than 1,000 pounds. The fabric is used as support to increase agility, improve flexibility and relieve compressed joints. Unlike regular yoga, where students position themselves on the ground, aerial yoga is more acrobatic and allows participants to bend backward, hang upside down and relax in a cocoon inches off the ground.”

Can yoga help you keep you young?
Anything which increases your flexibility (mental and physical) and keeps you mobile for such a small investment of time and energy is worth checking out.
Yoga Journal – Yoga Buzz – Yoga Blog reports:
“Researchers at Indiana University released a study today that showed older adults who practice hatha yoga may be less afraid of falling—which is important, the study says, because that fear can limit physical and social activity, ultimately diminishing the quality of life.”
Give your local yoga studio a call. Many studios have classes for seniors. If they don’t, then take a beginner’s class. You’ll be glad you did, right from your very first class.
